TUPELO – Snow White, Belle, Tiana, Ariel and their princes will all be on the ice for “Disney on Ice presents Princesses and Heroes.”

Skater Gary Lester will be out there, too, but it’s a secret who he’s playing.

“It’s one of those ones where you can’t really say, because it ruins the magic in everything,” Lester said in a phone interview with the Daily Journal from a tour stop in Charleston, S.C.

And there is plenty of magic in this show, he said. Fans of classic and contemporary princesses and heroes will find scenes they love, he said, whether it’s a fun underwater dance with Ariel or a dramatic fight with a dragon.

“There’s something for boys and girls of all ages,” he said. “We have eight princesses in the show, and we have Tinkerbell, who transports every story and presents it all. We have a fire-breathing dragon for the boys, and the ice lights up on fire.”

The skating is top notch, he said, and there are plenty of special effects.

“There’s a really cool acrobat number that’s one-of-a-kind for any ice show. They do backflips off teeter-totters. It’s really cool,” Lester said.

Lester is excited to return to Tupelo, as he’s performed here with other Disney on Ice shows.

“I’ve been to Tupelo three times, so this will be my third time to Elvis’ place. In seven years I’ve been to about 64 countries. You name a place, I’ve probably been there,” he said.

He invites Disney fans of all ages to see “Princesses & Heroes.”

“The coolest part of it, it transports you to when you originally saw the movies,” he said. “It makes you feel young again, like, wow, there’s still magic in the air.”
