TUPELO – Elvis would’ve been 79 on Wednesday.

To celebrate his birthday, the Elvis Presley Birthplace is having a party at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the birthplace.

“We’ll have birthday cake and coffee and punch, and free admission to the house,” said Dick Guyton, director at the birthplace.

Elvis fans from England also will be there to celebrate.

“Next year would be his 80th birthday, so that (celebration) will be huge,” Guyton said. “In fact, we’ll start on Friday working on plans for next year.”

Wednesday night, the poster for the 2014 Tupelo Elvis Presley Festival will be unveiled at a private ceremony at the Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau.

A few details about the festival also will be announced.
