Classic princesses come to life at ‘Disney Live!’

TUPELO – It’s not every day an ordinary woman turns into a princess, but Meggan Schafer gets to do just that.
Schafer stars as Cinderella in “Disney Live! Three Classic Fairy Tales,” coming to the BancorpSouth Arena next Saturday.
“It’s Snow White, Cinderella and Belle, so it’s all the big major favorites that everyone likes to see,” Schafer said in a phone interview from a tour stop in Texas.
“We do the best of each story and give things a new twist, so it’s not like you’re just watching the movies,” she said. “You get to enjoy the best parts of each story.”
Schafer has played Cinderella for the past six years.
“I absolutely love it,” she said. “I feel like we’re really close. I kinda feel like she’s inspired me and my morals in my own personal life.”
Going from every day woman to princess is a process Schafer takes seriously.
“At first it took me a little bit of getting used to, so I definitely studied her persona. When people come to see me in the role of Cinderella, I don’t want them to see Meggan, I want them to see Cinderella,” Schafer said, “so they feel like they’ve met her personally and know her personally.”
Turning from Meggan Schafer to Cinderella is a surprisingly quick process.
“Between make-up and costume it probably takes about 20 minutes. We’ve got it down to a T,” she said.
Her favorite part of the show is when her Fairy Godmother transforms her dress into a ball gown.
“It’s simply magical,” she said.
Schafer said “Disney Live! Three Classic Fairy Tales” is the perfect show for the whole family.
“When parents come to see the show, they become a kid again,” she said. “There’s a lot of funny scenes, a lot of beautiful scenes, a lot of mystical scenes and magic – I think everyone gets something from it. And it’s keeping in that family tradition.”
