'Evening of Entertainment'

Get ready for a little bit of this and a little bit of that during Tupelo Community Theatre’s “Evening of Entertainment”
The event, which runs Thursday to Saturday at the Lyric Theatre, will feature a variety of ways to earn your applause.
On the new side, you’ll find the West of Shake Rag Improv Troupe. Members will take suggestions from the audience, then make up spontaneous characters and skits on the spot.
“They’ll do their own take on the Oscars,” said Tom Booth, TCT executive director. “They’re calling it the WOSCARS for West of Shake Rag.”
People in the audience may be invited to join the fun, so you might want to start sharpening your wits now.

Sing out
After intermission, the Lyric stage will be dedicated to Broadway.
“There are songs that have been performed here before, but some of it will be new stuff,” said Suzanne Oakely, who’s coordinating the show with Booth. “It’s all fabulous.”
A team of TCT regulars will sing songs from “Phantom of the Opera,” “Always, Patsy Cline,” “Les Miserables,” “Wicked,” “Rent” and more.
Oakley will sing “Mama Who Bore Me” from “Spring Awakening.” She recently placed second in the Adult Solo Music competition at the Mississippi Theatre Association Festival.
Lisa Martin and Allana Austin placed first in MTA’s Adult Duet Musical category with their version of “For Good” from “Wicked.” They’ll be together again during the “Evening of Entertainment.”
Singer Mickey Gousset is looking forward to delivering “Empty Chairs, Empty Tables” from “Les Miserables.”
“I’ve always wanted to sing it,” he said. “I sang it in high school, but to get to sing it in a venue like this is amazing.
“I was excited when Suzanne called me and asked me to be a part of it.”
The music will continue after the show at TCT’s North Annex, where there will be a cash bar. Everyone’s invited to meet with the performers and make the “Evening of Entertainment” last a little longer.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Booth said. “We think folks will enjoy it.”
