TUPELO – Moms are not allowed at the second-annual Father/Daughter Ball, unless their dad brings them.
The ball, set for 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 26, will feature heavy hors d'ouevres, live characters, a flower shop where girls can make bouquets for their mothers and a silent auction, among other activities. Proceeds from the banquet will benefit Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center.
At the Krispy Kreme dipping station, participants can create their own doughnuts.
“They can take doughnuts and fill them with whatever filling they want,” said Connie Haygood, regional representative for Le Bonheur. “They can roll it in chocolate and add sprinkles. That will be part of our dessert.”
A Krispy Kreme prize package will also be available in the silent auction, she added. Other bid items include college football memorabilia, NASCAR items and gift certificates. Another of the group's fund-raisers, the “Crosses of Remembrance” pottery piece, will also be available.
“Grant & Co. will have a modeling session and a runway, and will teach the girls how to model,” she said.
Last year, 96 dads attended with their daughters, and this year, that number could double. The event raised $5,000 last year, she said.
Each couple will receive a goodie bag before leaving, she said.
