TUPELO – Tailgating is not just for football anymore.
On Friday, the Tupelo High School PTO is encouraging the community to participate in a tailgate before the Golden Wave’s baseball game against the Columbus Falcons.
The party will begin at 5 p.m. – the start time of the JV game – in the lower parking lot at Tupelo Middle School, near the baseball field. The varsity team plays at 7 p.m.
“The whole community, not just players’ families, is invited to bring tents, chairs, tables, food and the Golden Wave spirit” to the event, said Pam Smith, a PTO member and tailgate organizer.
A prize will be awarded for the best tailgating decorations.
Last fall, the PTO organized a community-wide tailgate before a home football game and it was a hit, Smith said. THS Principal Mac Curlee was so pleased with the success he decided it would be a good idea to try it for baseball as well.
“We really don’t know what to expect,” Smith said.
