Robert St. John to present cooking workshop June 22 at Link Centre

TUPELO – Noted Mississippi chef and humorist Robert St. John will present a cooking school June 22 as a fundraiser for Link Centre Culinary Arts, a training program offered by Link Centre and Itawamba Community College.
Two sessions will be offered. The morning session at 10 a.m. will feature a brunch menu and the evening session at 6 p.m. will feature a casual supper. Participants will receive menus and recipes and a light meal at each session.
Author of seven cookbooks, St. John has traveled the United States speaking, presenting demonstrations, working for charitable causes, and entertaining audiences with his Southern wit. A graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, St. John owns the Purple Parrot Cafampé, Crescent City Grill, and Mahogany Bar in Hattiesburg and Meridian.
He has been featured on The Food Network, The Travel Channel, and the Turner South network. St. John was named the state’s top chef by Mississippi Magazine in 2006 and 2007. Past president and chairman of the board of the Mississippi Restaurant Association, St. John currently serves on the board of directors of the Mississippi Arts Commission, The Mississippi Museum of Art, and the National Chef’s Council for the Chefs for Humanity Organization.
The program will also feature noted Delta artist Wyatt Waters who has provided illustrations for several of St. Johns cookbooks. Waters will paint during the day as St. John cooks. His paintings will be auctioned at the end of the evening session.
Renowned floral designer Tracy Proctor, Tupelo-based and internationally known, will demonstrate tablescapes and centerpieces that the audience can repeat at home.
Jimmy Tharp of La Vino Wine and Spirits rounds out the presentation with suggestions for wine and food pairings.
The programs are in the Link Centre Reception Hall, located on the north lower level of the facility. Enter from Stephen D. Lee at Douglas Street. Tickets are $25 and reservations are required. Reservations may be made by contacting the ICC Continuing Education Division at (662) 620-5240.
The Link Centre Culinary Arts program offers food service classes each semester at the Link Centre. The old Harrisburg Church kitchen and reception hall have been renovated to house the classes. Classes are taught by registered dietitians and area chefs.
