Contestants sought
for upcoming pageant
n The Elvis Presley Festival will feature the fourth annual Queen for a King Pageant at 6 p.m. May 29 at Lawhon Elementary Auditorium.
“Lawhon Elementary was Elvis Presley’s first school,” said Amye Gousset, pageant director, “so it seemed fitting to hold the pageant there this year.”
The beauty pageant is open to female contestants from birth to age 21, with categories for each age group.
Special guests include the reigning Miss Tupelo, Adrian Turner; Miss Teen Tupelo, Ashley Neal; and former Miss Mississippi, Kandace Williams as musical guest and emcee.
Deadline for entry is May 22, and applications are available at www.tupeloelvisfestival.com, or by calling (662) 841-6598. Applications also are available at the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association, 108 South Broadway St.

BOONEVILLE
Music company plans
open house, reception
n Double E Promotions, a music productions company, will host an open house on Saturday.
The event will include a ribbon cutting at 3 p.m. at Double E Promotions, 101 W. Market St., Booneville. That will be followed by a 4 p.m. reception at the Booneville Chamber of Commerce.
Some of the company’s artists, including Allen Frizzell, will attend. Frizzell’s song, “Man of His Word,” charted No. 1 in Power Source magazine.

Three actors needed
to bring ghosts to life
n Spirits of Oxford needs three more ghosts for an otherworldly presentation at St. Peters Cemetery.
There are three roles to fill:
* Gen. Claudius W. Sears, Confederate general and professor at the University of Mississippi. He’s a middle-aged or older man.
* Princess Hoka, a Native-American woman who could be of any age.
* Lula Thompson Chandler, a 30-something character.
Auditions will be 6 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Oaks, 601 Murray St., Oxford. Each actor will get background information about the character, then read a four- to five-minute script.
Spirits of Oxford 2009 is scheduled for Oct. 16 at St. Peters Cemetery. Costumes and makeup will be provided.

perform Saturday
n Country legend George Jones will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Crossroads Arena in Corinth.
