TUPELO – The GumTree Museum of Art wants to dominate your calendar this week.
The Mississippi Art Colony exhibit will be on display until March 31. An opening reception is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
From 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday, it’ll be time for Martini Night at the Museum, and the name pretty much tells you what to expect
“They’re going to be great events,” said Kit Stafford, museum director. “I’m excited.”
The Mississippi Art Colony exhibit features work by more than 20 artists who’ve attended art camps in Utica. It will include pieces by Lucy Gaines of Tupelo and Tina Lutz, former GumTree director.
“There are some pencil drawings, some pastels, some watercolors, acrylics and oils,” Stafford said. “We have some that are very abstract and some are representational. We have a lot of variety.”
Tuesday’s opening reception is a free event. A cash bar and hors d’oeuvres will be available.
‘Cocktail party attire’
The $35 tickets for Martini Night at the Museum on Friday are good for your first martini or glass of wine. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served, and there will be a cash bar.
“It’s cocktail party attire, but that encompasses a broad range of clothing options,” Stafford said. “It’s evening out martini wear.”
Stafford said Tom Ford will be the bartender for the night, and “he’ll be whipping up some mean martinis.”
