Girls rock: Splash show choir to deliver ‘Peace, Love and Dance’

Tupelo Middle School’s show choir Splash will present “Peace. Love. Dance.” at 7 p.m. Friday, April 24 and at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 25. Tickets are $5 in advance; $6 at door. (662) 842-4209.

TUPELO – In the past, Tupelo Middle School’s show choir has featured a mixture of boys and girls.
But the boys mostly steered clear of auditions last November, so the girls rule the 2009 edition of Splash.
“It’s been pretty nice because we get to use pink shirts, and so many girlie songs,” said Katie Foxworthy, who directs “Splash” with Danielle Frerer.
The one-hour show is called “Peace, Love and Dance,” and it features “Disco Fever,” “We are Family,” “Bubbly,” “Girlfriend” and more.
“It’s hard to pick a favorite,” Frerer said. “They’re really all fun songs in their own way.”
The seventh- and eighth-grade girls, who helped pick some of the songs, have been working on music and choreography since January.
“They meet entirely after school, mostly on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, but some Saturdays,” Foxworthy said.
All that work will come to fruition in a musical celebration of girl power, otherwise known as “Peace, Love and Dance,” on Friday and Saturday at the Tupelo Civic Auditorium.
“There are solos and big numbers. There’s a lot of dancing,” Frerer said. “It’s a fun chance to watch a great group of girls who really excel at this.”
