Dance your heart out Feb. 20 at The Orchard
- Lace up your dancing shoes because the 2010 Day of Dance for Health promises to get your heart beating and your feet moving.
Feb. 20 is the celebration of dance as a way to enjoy life and prevent heart disease. Festivities will take place from 8 a.m. until noon at The Orchard, located at 1379 Coley Road in Tupelo.
Beginning at 8 a.m. and during breaks, take advantage of health screenings and education, including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, women’s heart disease risk, body mass index, stroke risk and more. The first 100 participants can take advantage of a free cholesterol screening, while all others can have the screening done for only $5.
Dancing begins at 9 a.m. with each dance session offering the opportunity to watch, then join in. Day of Dance for Health will also include educational mini-sessions between dances.

Eyewear drive seeks used glasses
- North Mississippi Medical Center is teaming up with the Lions Club of Tupelo to collect eyewear for the needy throughout February, National Low Vision Awareness Month.
Collection boxes have been placed throughout NMMC facilities for used eyeglasses, sunglasses and reading glasses. The drive at NMMC will end March 5.
The Lions Club will distribute the eyewear to those in need in the United States and third world countries worldwide.

Show the love for Festival of Hope
- Honor or remember someone special this Valentine’s Day while contributing to the fight against heart disease, cancer and diabetes through Project Hope.
Memorials and honorariums will be recognized during the 11th annual Festival of Hope on Friday, Feb. 26, if received by Friday, Feb. 19. This year’s event will begin at 6 p.m. at Tupelo Furniture Market’s Building 5.
Project Hope will notify the recipient or family of the gift if contact information is provided.
