TUPELO – Former first lady Laura Bush is coming to Tupelo to help HealthWorks! children’s health education center celebrate five years of success.
Bush, long a champion for education, health care and human rights, will be the keynote speaker at a Nov. 18 dinner at the BancorpSouth Conference Center.
“HealthWorks! has grown and evolved to become more than a school field trip, curriculum-based health education facility. It is also becoming a recognized center for children and family health literacy,” said Dean Hancock, president of Health Care Foundation. “Mrs. Bush’s teaching and education background, her efforts toward child literacy and her advocacy of health care philanthropy matches perfectly with our hopes and dreams for this event.”
Since opening in January 2009, more than 120,000 students, teachers and parents have visited HealthWorks! and participated in its programs.
Her visit will help support the center’s current $2 million capital campaign.
Tickets for the dinner will be available by special invitation and for purchase at www.nmhs.net/hcf.php in the coming weeks. Prices have not yet been announced. For more information, call the Health Care Foundation at (662) 377-3613.
