VERONA – LuLu Roman is on her way from the cornfields of “Hee Haw” to a stage in Lee County.
Roman, best known as a castmember of “Hee Haw,” has been, for years now, growing her gospel music career and she spends much of her time traveling the country.
Her schedule is chock full of speaking and singing appearances, and Lee County is another place on her list.
“We’re filling in more (dates) every day,” Roman said in a phone interview while out on the road. “My whole thing is going to churches or conferences or group things or whatever, and what I do is I sing and tell my story. That’s the deal.”
Roman will perform songs off her latest album, “Seven Times,” as well as talk about her walk with God. You can expect her signature laughs that made her famous on “Hee Haw,” too.
“I just sing a little bit of both – or maybe I should say a whole lot of both. I’ll do country and gospel, and I’ll tell some funny stories,” she said. “We’ll have a great time.”
Roman has more ideas up her sleeve, though, besides touring.
She has her eyes on a country album, a duets album, and maybe even an album full of her favorite LuLu moments.
“We can’t decide which one we want to do first,” the 63-year-old said.
She covers a host of songs written by others, but does her fair share of songwriting, too.
“I believe I was born to be a songwriter,” she said.
Her focus now, though, is getting from venue to venue and entertaining her fans.
“I did over 250 tour dates last year,” she said. “I love it, honey.”
She guarantees a good time for anyone who comes to hear her sing and speak.
“You might laugh a little, you might cry a little, and hopefully you will know why you came in,” she said. “Won’t y’all come see LuLu, honey?”
