IT’S A GAS, GAS
– Fuel, fuel everywhere: According to the Department of Energy, more than 14 million households use propane gas to fuel appliances, including anything from furnaces and water heaters to pool heaters and gas grills. The specially designed storage tank is located on the homeowner’s property and commonly holds 250 or 500 gallons of fuel.
– Keep your wits about you: Commonsense fire safety rules prevail. Don’t smoke around propane tanks or any other sites where flammable gases may escape. Don’t let children play on or around a propane tank; they could break a valve or disrupt the line that leads from the tank to the ground and onward to the house.
– What a line: When landscaping, beware of any digging between the home and a propane tank. Lines are buried just 15 inches deep in the soil.
