Join the show: Festival of Hope celebrates Broadway style

Festival of Hope is ready to get on with the show on March 2. The 13th annual festival that celebrates countless hours of work to raise money to benefit local cancer, diabetes and heart disease will be putting on the Ritz with a Broadway-themed event at the Tupelo Furniture Market Building 1.
“It’s going to be so much fun,” said Christy Miller, who is the 2012 Festival of Hope chairwoman. Endocrinologist Dr. Jay Dey is serving as this year’s honorary chairman.
The festival always starts with opening ceremonies honoring survivors. The first act will be the popular Battle of the Badges lip sync contest between the Tupelo Fire Department and Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Carver Elementary students will perform, and teams will compete in a host of fun challenges.
“There’ll be entertainment all night,” Miller said.
Children will be able to find lots to do with games and inflatables. Wristbands for the inflatables will be $10.
This year, more than 25 teams from across the community are signed up for the festival. The money they raise goes to programs that aid patients and educate the community, as well as scholarships.
“Our goal is always to beat the year before,” Miller said. Last year, the festival brought in about $87,000.
