Verona Christmas parade a great success
Verona Christmas parade winners were Verona Elementary Kindergarten, first place; Easy Find Directories, second place; and Plantersville Middle School cheerleaders, third place.
Special thanks to all the students, parents, county and city officials and the entire community for making it a great success.
The Verona Youth Council will meet Sunday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Verona City Hall. Each member will make a report on time spent during the Christmas break with assigned local elected and appointed officials. To test and strengthen their knowledge of government, a game will be played. Each member will receive their next assignment. Visitors from several surrounding cities will attend.
Ward 3 Neighborhood Watch will meet Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. at the Verona City Hall. Each member is asked to bring a neighbor.
Raymond East Neighborhood Association
RENA will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. at Old Town Hall. Renters, landlords, absent landlords, schools, churches, business representatives and interested neighbors are asked to attend. A special recruitment drive is under way to boost its membership.
This week you will see the first Verona banners going up, each depicting the rich history of the city. Thanks to RENA members for raising funds to accomplish this. Letters will go out in the near future asking individuals, schools, churches, businesses and others to participate in the beautification project by purchasing a banner.
Thanks to Pam and Julian Riley for their hard community work and providing RENA a permanent meeting place.
Thank you Renasant Bank for making a huge improvement in the city by clearing the lot on the corner of Main and Raymond Street. It is wonderful to see the beautiful green grass.
Students at Verona Elementary School are working extremely hard to reach their goal of reading 5,000 books by May. Students have to have at least an 85% passing rate for the books to count toward the goal.
First Baptist Church
Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, Jan. 21 during the morning worship service.
Baptist Men’s Day Jan. 28. The women’s ministry will host a “Tailgate Party” for the men after the Evening Worship Service.

Chandlers Temple CME Church
The Youth and Young Adult department will host Wed. night Worship service Jan. 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. Special musical guest will be the Gospel Sounds of ICC. The Rev. Charles will deliver the message.

Second Baptist Church
Second Baptist will host the services for the installation of officers for the Springhill District Association. The services will be held on Feb. 2. More details will be forthcoming. The Rev. Larry M. Stone, host pastor.
Sunday morning worship services will begin at 8 a.m.
The OWLS (Sr. Adults) will meet today from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the church. Please bring a covered dish.
The wedding of Stacey Buse and Steven Blaylock II will be at 6 p.m. on Jan. 20 at Verona UMC.
Each Wednesday night prayer meeting is at 5:45 p.m. Bible study at 6 p.m., and choir rehearsal at 6:45 p.m.
