TUPELO – Barbara Fleishhacker has reason to celebrate.
Her boutique, Main Attraction, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in downtown Tupelo. To celebrate, she’s hosting one of her favorite musicians, Big Joe Maher & the Dynaflows, at Romie’s BBQ on Sept. 13 – the day after her birthday.
“I was looking for something fun and wonderful to do,” she said. “He’s wonderful. He’s a great blues musician.”
Just 100 tickets will be sold, and all of the proceeds are going to the Tupelo-Lee Humane Society. Tickets are available at the Main Attraction.
“I’m earmarking this night to go to the new shelter fund,” Fleishhacker said.
Checks can be made payable to the shelter, so they’re tax deductible.
“He’s already told me that he will put a tip jar out, and make the animal shelter the sixth member of the band. Whatever tips they take in, they’ll share with the animal shelter,” she said.
Fleishhacker said she first heard of Big Joe when he performed as a part of Delbert McClinton’s Sandy Beaches Cruise.
He performs a mix of jazz, swing and blues, and once worked at Mick Fleetwood’s nightclub in Virginia and performed at President Bill Clinton’s inauguration ball.
He’s recorded albums with his band, the Dynaflows, and his Big 3 Jazz Trio.
Hotel rooms have been donated for the band, and Tupelo Consignment Music has donated a PA system for the event.
