TUPELO – Four Northeast Mississippi families are vying for a special honor from Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center. They’re raising money for the pediatric facility in the process.
“This fundraiser started a couple of years ago in the Memphis area,” said Susie Morgan, who works with special events for the children’s hospital. “There are so many children in this part of the state whose lives have been saved or changed by Le Bonheur, we decided we would have our own Miracle Maker/A Family Affair.”
The families from Northeast Mississippi participating in the fundraiser are Eddie, Kelly and Emma Pearl Scott of Baldwyn; Russell, Terri and Cooper Hughes of Tupelo; Sandy, Teresa and Grant Fisher of Booneville; and Charity Daniel and Cierra Hoskins of Nettleton.
One of the families will be named Mississippi’s Le Bonheur Family of the Year at an April 28 event at the BancorpSouth Conference Center-Hilton Garden Inn in Tupelo. The ’50s-themed party – to feature entertainment, a silent auction, and food and drinks – culminates an eight-week fundraising campaign by each family.
“They all have teams,” Morgan said. “They’ve got such neat stories.”
Five-year-old Cooper Hughes, for instance, was born two months early with many medical complications including bowel problems and clubfeet. Today, his family celebrates his health and is looking forward to Cooper entering kindergarten this fall.
Morgan said each LeBonheur Miracle Maker family’s story is available at www.lebonheur.org.
