Mississippi communities offer Christmas events

JACKSON — Tourism officials say several Mississippi cities are celebrating the holidays with elaborate light displays, concerts, tours of decorated historic homes and other events. Here’s a sampling of events:

— Canton: Victorian Christmas Festival, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. through Dec. 23.

Canton, which bills itself as the City of Lights, has more than 200,000 Christmas lights in the Courthouse Square. The city offers other attractions, including a carousel, a miniature train or fire truck on the square; Canton Animation Museums; Old Jail Museum; Log Cabin Behind the Old Jail and the Railroad Museum. —Southaven: 13th Annual Southern Lights, 6-10 p.m. through Dec. 31.

Southaven’s 116-acre Central Park is decorated with hundreds of thousands of lights. Visitors can tune into five FM radio stations playing Christmas music as they ride through the park. Admission is $10 for cars, $15 for vans and hayrides, $25 for buses and $5 for motorcycles. Proceeds go to local charities. Closed Christmas Day. Details: http://www.southaven.org .

— Natchez: Christmas in Natchez, through Jan. 1.

— Jackson: Old Capitol Museum.

— Gulf Coast: Ice skating in Biloxi, through Dec. 31.
