Need to Know, 2/22

ahh! It’s spring fashion time here at the DJ, so I’m working on lots of spring fashion-y stuff. That being said, I haven’t had a chance to update much on here til today. Don’t worry, I have lots of stuff to share.

First off, how was your weekend? What did you do? Did you go to the Magnolia Film Fest?

Saturday night I went to the Jimmy Eat World concert – I know, shocker! – and I loved every second.

ALSO! Album Club was Thursday night and we had a spectacular time. We talked about “Barton Hollow” by The Civil Wars.

My friend Spencer came to Album Club for the first time, so I let him choose March’s album: it’s the Velvet Underground and Nico record (ya know, the one with the banana cover).

We’ll meet March 24 at 6 p.m. at the Link Centre to discuss. See you there!

Tell me about your weekend!

• Girl Talk is coming back to The Lyric Oxford in May. Woo!

• Jack White says he’ll never form or join another band again. Hmm.

• Phish has announced summer shows, including dates in Georgia.

• Want better-sounding mp3s?

Free tunes! Plus just good music…

Field Days has released its new album, “Projector,” totally for free. I listened to most of it today and enjoyed what I heard.

• Is experimental pop your style? Check out “I’m a Hunter” by ASKA.

• Who doesn’t love a little day-glo pop? Download “Wrinklecarver” and “Lawn Knives” by Gobble Gobble (who’ll be in Memphis at the Hi-Tone March 13).

• Want more stuff you can dance to? Check out “Contact High” by Helsinki.

This isn’t free, but it is adorable. Check out the video for “Magic Girl” by the Sleepy Rebels.
