New Albany hosts chili cook-off, zombie run

NEW ALBANY – Halloween and fall will be celebrated with chili, costumes and zombies in New Albany on Saturday.

The Hill Country Halloween and Chili Cook-off begins at 4 p.m. at the Union County Courthouse grounds.

The Halloween carnival includes cookie decorating, face-painting, a balloon artist and more.

Categories for the costume contest includes adults, children, zombies, groups and pets. There’s a $1 registration fee.

The Tallahatchie Zombie Run is 4:30 p.m. at the Park Along the River. Packs of zombies will chase and harass runners throughout the 1.5 mile fun run, said Sean Thompson, director of marketing and tourism for New Albany. There will be rest and water stations where runners will be safe from blood-thirty zombies.

The race is $35/individuals, $30/groups of 3, $25/groups of 4-9 and $20/groups of 10 or more. Register online at zombierun.racesonline.com.

A dinner bowl of chili is $8 for adults, and $3 for children under 10, and includes a drink.

Entertainment for the evening starts with the Partlow Drummers at 4:15.

Headlining the show is the Spunk Monkees, and the band begins at 6:30 p.m.
