OXFORD – Area youths interested in basketball, swimming and other summer sports are invited to participate in the National Youth Sports Program June 1-July 8 at the University of Mississippi.

NYSP is scheduled for 12:15 until 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday (except July 1 and 4), for youth ages 10-16. The free program includes lunch, two hours of sports activities and an hour of fun educational activities.

“Youths from Oxford and Lafayette County as well as from surrounding counties are encouraged to attend NYSP,” said Stephanie Baller, NYSP community liaison. “NYSP offers quality educational and sports programs for everyone, and it's the only free camp in the area.”

Administered by Ole Miss' Department of Health, Exercise Science and Recreation Management, NYSP is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Baller said space is limited to 400 students, and all participants must submit proof of physical examination before their application will be approved. NYSP applications are available at 215 Turner Center.
