TUPELO – Author, speaker, and blogger Jen Hatmaker is set to headline Stepping Out, the Orchard’s first women’s conference, on Friday and Saturday.

Anna Polsgrove, part of the Orchard’s team organizing the event, said the church hosts an event for women each year, but hosting a speaker was a new venture.

“We were looking for someone who was easy to relate to, and that’s what she does,” Polsgrove said. “I learned about her through her book, ‘Seven,’ where each month for seven months she took a different aspect of her life and reduced it to make room for God.”

Hatmaker has penned nine books and Bible studies, and has spoken at conferences for women, church planters, and young adults all over the country. Her walk with the Lord led Hatmaker and her husband to start their own church in Austin, Texas, in 2008, and to adopt a son and daughter from Ethiopia in 2010.

“Women from ninth grade and up will attend the conference,” Polsgrove said. “It’s a great opportunity to come together and acknowledge that no matter where we come from in life, we’re still the same. It’s really going to be a conference where everyone can take something away from it and everyone can feel comfortable.”

Polsgrove said the event will take place on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Saturday’s portion will begin with a light breakfast. Tickets to the event are available at theorchard.net/women, and will cost $30 through Thursday.

Tickets at the door will cost $40. The Orchard also is offering a group rate, affording one free ticket for every 10 tickets purchased.
