TUPELO – The music of Bono and The Edge will get a Southern flair, all for a good cause, this weekend at Origins.
Local musicians will pay tribute to U2 at a concert at the church, with all the proceeds going toward Foundation Elohim, the church’s mission partner in Quito, Ecuador.
“Inner city kids there can’t afford uniforms and books, and they don’t let you go to school there if you can’t afford that, so (Elohim) provides those things,” said Tony Caldwell, who’s performing at the concert. “It teaches literacy, provides meals and clothing.”
Musicians who will perform at the concert include Jason and Melissa McAnally, Jason Carter, Jeff Spencer, Kevin Waide, Brad Hayden, J.B. Clark and Rick Pike.
Everyone who performs will play something by U2.
Admission is $10, but larger donations will be accepted.
Origins has hosted concerts to support Foundation Elohim in the past, and hope to make it an annual event.
“The foundation is comprehensive and takes care of a lot of needs,” Caldwell said.
