Oxford eatery, chef named semifinalists

OXFORD – An Oxford chef and a new restaurant were named semifinalists Wednesday for the prestigious 27th annual James Beard Foundation Awards.

Saint Leo, an Italian restaurant, was nominated for Best New Restaurant, and Vishwesh Bhatt, executive chef at Snackbar, was nominated for Best Chef South. This marks the fourth time Bhatt has been nominated for the award.

The foundation will announce the finalists in March, and the winners will be named in May.

James Beard was an American chef and food writer. The foundation named in his honor was set up to provide scholarships to aspiring food professionals and to champion the American culinary tradition, which Beard helped create.
