TUPELO – With a helping hand from Toyota, HealthWorks! is getting parents into the action.

As part of the “Together We Can!” program funded by a $20,000 grant from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi, the Tupelo children’s health education center will begin offering parent sessions next week to tie in with programming at Tupelo, Lee County and Nettleton upper elementary schools.

“All the sessions focus on increasing physical activity, decreasing screen time and improving nutrition,” said Kathy Tucker, the seamstress of strategy (director) for HealthWorks!

Parents can sign up to attend four 90-minute Tuesday night sessions offered at 5:30 p.m. starting Jan. 28 or two three-hour Saturday sessions starting at 9 a.m. on Feb. 15 and 22. Light snacks will be provided.

“The learning that goes on at school will hopefully continue at home,” said Tucker, noting the program was developed by the National Institute of Health, but will be delivered in HealthWorks! signature high-energy style.

Parents will receive a family guide as part of the program and will be recognized at the annual Tie Dye 5K event in may. Those who complete the six-hour parent program will earn a free year-long family membership – a $100 value.

Parents can sign up by returning forms to the schools or calling HealthWorks! at (662) 377-5437.
