TUPELO – If you have a preschooler, chances are good that you’ve spent time with “Handy Manny” and “Little Einsteins.”
If those don’t ring a bell, then surely you know Mickey Mouse and Winnie-the-Pooh.
All those characters from Disney Channel’s “Playhouse Disney” will come to life at the BancorpSouth Arena during “Playhouse Disney Live!”
“For a lot of our audience members, this will be their first exposure to live theater,” said Allison Piehl, who plays the Postess during the show. “We try to keep energy going for 3- to 5-year-olds with a lot of bright colors and exciting dance moves.”
In case you’re wondering, a Postess is a cross between a hostess and a postal worker. Mickey Mouse is having a party, so Piehl as the Postess delivers invitations to the other characters.
“One of the features of the role is I help connect the audience to the characters,” Piehl said. “We encourage the audience to get up and dance. At one time, we get people up on stage to do the ‘Hot-Dog Dance.’”
Fans of “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” know that Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Goofy perform the “Hot-Dog Dance” at the end of each episode.
Kids also will see live action versions of “Little Einsteins,” a crew of classical music-loving kids; “Handy Manny” and his box full of talking tools; and “My Friends Tigger & Pooh,” which features other inhabitants of the Hundred Acre Wood.
“The finale is pretty exciting,” Piehl said. “All of the different characters come together and throw a music party. It’s not something you get to see on TV.
“If you want to have a good time, come to the music party. Everyone’s invited.”
