TUPELO – Disney princesses Cinderella, Belle and Snow White will take the spotlight this weekend at the BancorpSouth Arena.
Disney Live! presents the stage show “Three Classic Fairy Tales,” featuring more than 25 Disney characters and focusing on the three princesses.
There are princesses and heroes, fairies and dwarves, evil queens and step-sisters.
It’s a lot of fun, but Meggan Schafer, who stars as Cinderella, takes it seriously.
“I definitely respect the character of Cinderella and how people idolize her,” she said in a phone interview. “I keep that in mind, so when people see me on stage, they don’t think that’s somebody who’s trying to pretend to be Cinderella. I want them to forget that I’m here and just see her.”
She said audiences will find something they enjoy in “Three Classic Fairy Tales,” whether it’s the fancy gowns or dramatic stories.
“In ‘Snow White,’ we have the Seven Dwarfs – everybody loves the Seven Dwarfs,” she said. “During ‘Cinderella,’ you have the evil step-sisters, who (provide) your typical slapstick comedy. There’s a lot going on.”
She’s sweet on her character’s story, and how she overcomes her evil family to find true love.
“She’s got some great morals. She responds to situations well. I think it’s a great story for kids to watch and learn from as well,” Schafer said.
Her character brings smiles to kids’ faces, she said.
“My favorite part of the show is watching people in the audience,” she said. “I get such a kick out of that. I can see the kids, dancing in the aisles, twirling around. It makes me feel like a kid again. That’s the best part of my job.”
“Three Classic Fairy Tales” is a show for the whole family, Schafer said.
“It’s a wonderful family show, and it brings families together,” she said. “That’s what Disney’s known for.”
