Renowned floral designer headlines Ripley flower show

RIPLEY – Jon Hickey, a floral designer at Oxford Floral for 15 years, will make a guest appearance at the “Sav-A-Life Flower Show,” sponsored by the Ripley Home and Garden Club.
The event is Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center on East Pine Street in Ripley. Tickets are $10.
“He’s going to be arranging fall foliage and doing holiday designs,” said Terri Stanford, a garden club member.
Hickey is a graduate of New Albany High School and has a degree in Retail Floristry Management from Mississippi State University. Before joining Oxford Floral, he worked at Jody’s in Tupelo.
He has done floral arrangements for entertainer Justin Timberlake, author John Grisham, former first lady Betty Ford, England’s Prince Edward and King Abdullah of Jordan.
“We’re hoping to have 400 people attend,” Stanford said. “We’re so excited to have him. All the proceeds will go to Sav-A-Life, because I believe he’s donating his time and the flowers he’ll use.”
Sav-A-Life is a non-profit agency that provides positive alternatives to anyone facing an unplanned pregnancy.
Tickets for the floral show are available at Merle Norman Cosmetics, Sav-A-Life, Barkley’s Cleaners and at the door. Light refreshments will be served.
“This is our first time to try something like this,” Stanford said. “Hopefully, it will be successful and we’ll want to do it again next year.”
