SALTILLO – Logan Golebiewski and a small group of his friends are planning to get their hands dirty.
During a youth service day on April 22, Logan, 14, and four friends will use a $2,000 State Farm grant to buy supplies and landscape different areas of town.
“Saltillo has got neglected areas,” he said. “We want to make it look better.”
Logan applied for the grant after reading about it in Parade magazine, said his mother, Debi Golebiewski. He filled out a questionnaire, submitted it and won.
He was the only winner in Mississippi, said Trentice Imbler, State Farm agent. To win, he had to tie his project in with school curriculum. He used horticulture, math and English.
The group will go to work on April 22, Imbler said.
“They're going to use it on the neglected areas in Saltillo,” Debi Golebiewski said. “They'll be doing beautification down Main Street. They're going to buy hanging plants for in front of merchants' stores.”
