OXFORD – It’s been a minute since Bobby Bare Jr. released any new music, but his fans won’t have to wait long.
Bare has both a new album and a documentary in the works.
“I’ll have a new album that goes out in January or February, and the documentary will be released at the same time,” he said in a phone interview with the Daily Journal, “and they’re gonna show the movie where I”m touring. It’s exciting.”
A trailer for the doc, “Don’t Follow Me (I’m Lost)” is up now on his website. It shows Bare, son of country musician Bobby Bare, making music and being a family man.
His last album, “A Storm, A Tree, My Mother’s Head” was released in 2010. The singer-songwriter is excited about the new tunes.
“It’s got the heaviest rock stuff I’ve done, and probably the most gentle country stuff,” he said. “Recording a record’s like doing your hair and make-up in a dark room. You don’t know what you’ve done until you let other people see it.”
When he plays Proud Larry’s next week, he’ll play both older tunes – tracks from his solo records and songs he recorded with his band, Bare Jr. – as well as stuff from the new album.
“There’s a song called ‘North of Alabama,’ a song that goes over better than anything we’ve ever played,” he said. “It’s so much fun.”
