TUPELO – Any good sequel wants to build on the success of its predecessor, and that’s what “Sounds of Sanctuary II” hopes to do.

Last year, Tupelo musicians Svetlana Kaltchenko, Nan Lawrence and Martha F. Monroe recorded an album, “Sounds of Sanctuary,” which sold out in three weeks, and they performed a sell-out concert, all to benefit Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.

They’re returning this year with a follow-up CD and concert set for May 15.

“Each song is so carefully chosen to emulate the atmosphere at Sanctuary,” Monroe said. “A lot of people say they listen to (the first CD) if they need to have a quiet moment.”

There are 16 tracks on the second CD, one more from the first album.

The CD features a mix of sacred, Broadway, pop and classical songs, with a few movie themes mixed in.

“We have a variety of music. You’re going to like at least one song,” Lawrence said.

Guest vocalist Lance Moore, a member of the gospel group Paid in Full, will join the trio for the concert.

“Sounds of Sanctuary II” will be released the night of the show, and for those who can’t be there to buy one, they will be available at the hospice house.

Monroe, Lawrence and Kaltchenko are grateful to those who’ve donated their time and efforts to creating the CD and hosting the concert.

Photographer Darrell Ivy has handled their artwork, and the album was recorded at First Presbyterian Church in Tupelo with David Dillard.

“Every cent we make goes to Sanctuary,” Monroe said. “We wanted to give a gift to Sanctuary and have listeners be blessed by the wonderful music. We hope in this time of tragedy and stress and devastation, it’ll be a time for people to come and relax and enjoy the beautiful music.”
