The youth at First Presbyterian Church in Tupelo are using Super Bowl Sunday for another purpose, to raise funds for a mission trip.
For the fourth year, the group will host a “Souper Sunday” lunch at the church located at 400 Jefferson St.
“This just started as a play on words with the Super Bowl,” said Hank Boerner, a member of the outreach mission committee at First Presbyterian.
“We do this as a fundraiser for mission work, and Super Bowl Sunday is one of the days we do it. We’ll have 10 to 12 different kinds of soups along with salads. The youth will bus the tables and basically serve as waiters.”
Boerner said they will serve about 150 people during the event. There is no set price but donations are requested in the “approximate amount an individual or family would spend out eating for Sunday lunch.”
