There were a lot of events this weekend – what did you do?
Friday night I went to the Amy LaVere show at the Link Centre.
As usual, Amy was nothing short of awesome.
A few songs into her set, the mixer died, but the band played on. They all moved to the floor, right in front of the audience, and kept going. It was such a fun, spontaneous show, and Amy definitely wowed the audience with her talent and grace. Some bands may have cursed the dead mixer, but really, that was the best thing that could’ve happened.
If you missed this show, trust me when I say, you really missed out.
The next day I took a trip over to Double Decker. I caught Justin Townes Earle’s wonderful set, which included a lot my favorite songs, like “South Georgia Sugar Babe” and “Can’t Hardly Wait.”
That night, I saw “Dylan Dog: Dead of Night.” Bless its heart. That’s all I’m sayin’.
Yesterday I covered a part of the “Picking Up the Pieces” benefit show at Goodtime Charlie’s.
As of press time, they’d raised about $1,300, but I got a message late last night that the total was more than $1,800. Awesome!
Also, here’s news of another benefit:
Greg Dillard of Busted Screen Door is hosting a benefit for Smithville from 7-10 p.m. May 10. It’ll be at the Park Heights rooftop, and a few confirmed performers include Busted Screen Door and Matt Nolan. I’ll post more info on the show when I know it.
So, what about your weekend? What did you do? Anybody check out Blue Suede Cruise?
