TUPELO – After a successful 2008, the Tupelo Fair will return to the BancorpSouth Arena parking lot on Friday.
“It went really well last year,” said Philip Downing, president of Fair Nation, Inc., “and we got a lot of positive response from people who liked having a fair in downtown Tupelo.”
The midway will feature approximately 30 different rides, with some for the faint of heart and others for the adventurous.
“I would say my favorite is the Mega Drop,” Downing said. “It takes you up high and drops you about 150 feet.”
Food, another fair staple, will be in ample supply. Downing suspected people will have a hard time restraining themselves.
“We’ve got every fair food that’s known to man,” he said. “We may have too much fair food. We’ll have food down one line and a cardiac care unit down another line because I know everybody is going to have a heart attack.”
The fair will include a petting zoo, complete with an area devoted to baby animals. Bottles will be available for feedings.
“They’ve got a miniature donkey,” Downing said. “It looks like a small puppy.”
Circus performers will provide high-wire thrills, and there’s a comedy monkey show planned.
In addition, the fair will feature a variety of musical acts from throughout Northeast Mississippi.
“The buzz word this year is ‘staycation,’” he said. “This is something for the family to do together that’s close to home.”
