Tupelo Women’s Club’s annual event benefits area charities

The Tupelo Women’s Club invites you to get in the Christmas spirit early by attending the annual Holiday Tree Festival on Tuesday at the Tupelo Country Club.
The 7 p.m. event will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, a silent auction and, best of all, beautifully decorated Christmas trees and wreaths. Tickets are $20 each and may be purchased at Busylad Rent-All, from any club member or at the door.
The ladies will be decorating four Christmas trees themselves, said Erin Stubbs, co-chairman of the event.
“One is rustic, one is traditional lime green and red, one is done with more elegant colors and decorations, and the fourth is a family-themed tree,” Stubbs said.
The emphasis on this year’s silent auction will be on wreaths, though, rather than trees.
“We’ve had a lot of trouble getting trees this year,” said Natalie Ellis, also a co-chairman. “The economy keeps people from making donations. But we will have at least five big wreaths for the silent auction.”
Other silent auction items will include restaurant gift certificates, home accents, pottery, furniture, yard art and Christmas decor.
And of course, it wouldn’t be the Holiday Tree Festival without a nod to Christopher Radko.
“In the past, Mid-South Nursery has helped with the Radko tree, but this year we’re doing it ourselves,” Stubbs said. “It won’t be a tree, though. It will be a display of the ornaments – 20 in all – worth $860.”
Raffle tickets for the Radko display are $2 each.
“This is our only fund-raiser,” Stubbs said. “Last year, we raised $20,000.”
All proceeds from the event benefit the 23 charities the Tupelo Women’s Club supports: Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club, Christian Women’s Job Corp, El Centro, Faith Haven, Family Resource Center, Gardner-Simmons Home for Girls, Good Samaritan Free Clinic, Habitat for Humanity, Helping Hands Food Pantry, Hope Family Ministry, Learning Skills Center, McDougal Center, Parkgate Pregnancy Clinic, Regional Rehab, Sanctuary Hospice House, SAFE, Salvation Army, Tree of Life Free Clinic, Tupelo Autism Center, Tupelo/Lee Humane Society, Women’s First and the Weston Reed Cardiovascular Conference.
