Tupelo’s Homemade Jamz will appear on “Mo’Nique Show”

TUPELO – The Homemade Jamz Blues Band can add another accomplishment to its resume: a guest appearance on “The Mo’Nique Show.”
The Tupelo-based band will appear on the show tonight at 10 p.m. on BET.
The band members, Perry siblings Ryan, 17, Kyle, 15 and Taya, 10, will be featured on the show along with musician Sheila E. and CNN reporter Soledad O’Brien.
“It was incredible,” said Renaud Perry, the kids’ father, of the show they taped on Sept. 30. “They pulled a great big surprise on Taya. Her idol is Sheila E., and she got to meet her. Everybody was crying.”
Sheila E. is best known for her work with Prince and Ringo Starr, and she also had a string of solo hits in the 1980s and 90s.
Homemade Jamz performed its song “Rumors” on the show.
The band has released two albums, “Pay Me No Mind” and “I Got Blues For You.” The trio is about to head into a Clarksdale studio to record a third record.
“The Mo’Nique Show” is hosted by actress and comedian Mo’Nique. She has starred in TV shows like “The Parkers” and in such films as “Two Can Play That Game” and “Domino.” She recently won the Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival for her role in the new film “Precious.”
“The Mo’Nique Show” is her latest project, which debuted on BET on Oct. 5. The show tapes in Atlanta.
Homemade Jamz has been featured on “The Today Show” and “CBS Sunday Morning News.”
