What’s on Your iPod? 4/27

What’s new on your iPod today?

Mine is really new, like last-night new.

I went to the Blue Canoe to check out the husband-and-wife duo Shovels and Rope.

Daniel Morrow, who’s over Music in the Hall in Oxford, wrote about how great the band is a few months ago and told me it was one of the best shows he’d ever seen.

The two definitely lived up to that very high praise. Literally every song was terrific and compelling. Shovels and Rope was just on tour with Hayes Carll and Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, so the band has that kind of country vibe, with a big helping of blues and low-country sounds.

Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent have released two solo records and then one together as Shovels and Rope. I bought all three last night and they all sound terrific. If you want to hear what they sound like live, check out some live sessions here and here.
