What’s on Your iPod? 6/1

There’s nothing better than a good album, is there?

I’ve got some wonderful new albums on my iPod, so listen up if you like good music.

The first one is “Stone Rollin'” by Raphael Saadiq.

I’ve heard his name around a lot but never really listened to him. Then I came across the single, “Stone Rollin,'” and I knew I had to give the whole record a try. It is wonderful. Such a fun album to hear. And, my, it sounds so amazing to hear REAL instruments on an album, ya know? Less with computery production, more with real instruments and real sounds. If you dig old school soul, Motown and even a flash of rockabilly, you’ll dig that record. It is terrific.

The second is “Whistle the Dirges,” by General Oglethorpe & the Panhandlers. This is a new band based out of Savannah, Ga., and they’ve got a Modest Mouse-y kind of sound. But really, they don’t sound much like Modest Mouse…that’s just the closest comparison I can make. Either way, this sounds really fun and fresh and I think their live show has got to be even better than the record.

Also, this isn’t an album but, has anyone else heard “Someone to Love Me” by Mary J. Blige? Man, that is a good song. Love it.

What are you listening to these days? What’s the latest album or song you bought?
