In Thursday’s Scene section, I write about the playlists that are currently on my iPod. These are due to change anytime soon, once I overhaul my iPod, but that’s kind of a good thing. They’re due for an update.
Still, my column today lists my very favorite playlists, but here are a few more on my iPod. What playlists do you have on your iPod?
Wishful Make-upping – This playlist is named for a line in “Pretty in Pink,” and, naturally, is full of 80s music, like stuff by Culture Club, Janet Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, a-Ha, Bananarama and Madonna.
There Comes a Time in Every Woman’s Life When the Only Thing That Helps is a Glass of Champagne – This title is from the Bette Davis movie “Old Acquaintance.” As you can tell from the title, this is my calm-Sheena-down playlist. I put on this playlist when I need to drown out the world. Bands on this playlist include Band of Horses, Damien Rice and Jason Isbell.
Pink Chair for Little Girls – Everybody gets angry or frustrated once in a while, and you should have a good soundtrack to go along with it. This is my fed-up-with-the-day playlist and includes artists like System of a Down, Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica and the Misfits. The title of this playlist comes from one of my favorite thrillers, “The Bad Seed.”
Fire & Music – Yeah, same name as my column, both taken from the film “All About Eve.” This playlist is nothing but female rock bands. It’s always surprised me how little rock music I listen to made by women, so last summer I immersed myself in groups like Sleater-Kinney, Bratmobile, Le Tigre, The Like, Shonen Knife, Cibo Matto, Bikini Kill and Heavens to Betsy.
