Great job Sheriff Cantrell!! Many of these have Amory addresses-do you not think Chief Bowen and his staff knew about them? Amazing work APD!!!

    • Michael

Amy, in Monroe County, a 38821 address does not necessarily infer the City of. 38821 comes out to almost a mile from here and I am near Greenwood Springs. It also goes all the way to Wren and halfway to Smithville. All of these would be under the jurisdiction of the Monroe County Sheriff.

Using this as a precursor to slam the Chief is not warranted.

Nice try at defending the chief and the APD BUT if you had read the articles when these people were arrested you would have noticed that they had CITY of Amory addresses. No one said a word about 38821. Many of these have lived within the city limits of Amory all their lives. And no ggilmore not all of these were warrants for people who did not show up for court. A couple of them were just arrested on drug charges in the month of December. There simply is no defense in not doing your job!!

All this means is that they did not show up for court and a warrant was issued for them. Sometimes there are extenuating circumstances that the court system is not aware of. These people might have an extension filed and it was not made known to the court yet. That is all this means.

So, out of the 46 names listed, 32 of them DO list addresses that are outside the jurisdictional area of Amory, MS. Of those 32 most fall into the jurisdictional area of The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department. I, a resident of Monroe County, sincerely thank our Sheriff for all the good work he is doing in removing people who make bad choice and allowing him to think about those choices in a courtroom.

As for Chief Bowen, I have known him since April, 1988, when he was still an officer with the APD. Other that the DRAMA being drummed up by the people wanting to be powerhungry in their appointment process, I have not seen him do a bad job.

My name was on that list and they picked me up on the morning of the second but guess what let me fill you in on a bit of information my court date wasn’t till the 3rd they picked me up for missing a court date that hadn’t made it here yet so yea great job there sheriff and the only explanation I got was well we thought you might not show up and my reply was do you have any evidence or proof that I have ever missed a court date there response well no and then it hit me these people who picked me up have a job and it is to up hold the law and there famous words to me have always been you are presumed innocent until proven gguilty but I was judged guilty for a crime that I hadn’t even committed yet so we don’t have a real sheriff we have a man that violated my rights but hey its no big deal be c a use it didn’t happen to you thank you and goodbye
