Congratulations to Connie Twitty of Pontotoc who recently celebrated her 99th birthday. She is the widow of Elmer Twitty who was a board member and school trustee at Hurricane High School. Her children includes the following: Buddy Twitty, Charles Twitty, and the late Pat Twitty Mooneyhan.

Dirk Dowdy received a birthday card from Kay and Bernard Graham as he will be 46 on December 9. If you would like to send a card for the event, his address is 4549 Hwy. 346, Pontotoc, Mississippi, 38863. He received a collection of Shirley Temple movies from Pam Short of Memphis that he is thoroughly enjoying.

The Class of 1961 of Hurricane High met at the Abbeville Fish and Steak House for a reunion. Those attending were the following: Charles Short, Kenneth and Liz Duncan, Mary Lucius Riggs, Brother Mel and Delores Russell Mason, Bobby and Diane Graham Caples, Ryland Sneed, Darrel Sneed, Charles Williams, Bernard and Kay Richardson Graham. Not attending was Hug Swords. Deceased classmates include the following: David Robbins, Billy Rex Willard, Albert Russell and Berl McLaughlin.

Congratulations to Jason and Beth Montgomery Wray whose daughter Leah Fayeth Wray was born on November 8, 2007. She was welcomed home by her big brother, Ben and her big sister Emma Wray. Grandparents include Tranny and Zelda Todd Montgomery and great-grandmother is Katie Forman Todd. Waymon D. and Imogene Wray of Buchanan are paternal grandparents.

Congratulations to Riggin and April Bullard whose son Quentin Cash Bullard was born on November 7, 2007. Quentin Cash Bullard is the grandson of Brenda Daniels Bouler and of the late Travis Bullard of Hurricane and of the late Quay and Anita Bolen of Lafayette Springs.

Commissioner of Agriculture Lester Spell ate breakfast with Faye and Roy Dillard at their farm on Duncan Creek. Lester gave Dirk Dowdy a special pin to wear on his lapel. He also visited Wayne Warren and Graden Hooker while in the community.

Pam Short and Shelia Eaton had pink roses on the communion table at Hurricane Baptist Church in memory of their mom, Anna Dowdy Short.

Vicki and Mitchell Dyer of Pontotoc treated Freida Browning and Susan Hooker to dinner at Kirks Grill following the Ole Miss-LSU game.

Inez Todd Robison hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for her children and their families at her home on Todd Road at Sand Springs.

The Bud Graham family had Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday, November 25 at the home of Graden and Susan Hooker. Special guests were Shirley Harris of Pontotoc and Shelia and Danny Owen of Buchanan. Guide Browning had just celebrated his 16th birthday on November 15 and this occasion was also part of the event.

Terri, Rodger, Easton and Trey Smith were guests of the Smith family for Thanksgiving in Mayfield, Kentucky. Easton Smith bagged a deer on November 17.

Congratulations to Leslie and Jason Ross of Thaxton whose infant son Brody Scott Ross is now home after spending several weeks at the Womens Center in Tupelo as he was premature. Proud grandparents are Dickey and Doris McKnight Ross of Shady Grove and Cindi Hooker Webb of Thaxton and of Neal Spears of Oak Hill.

The Hugh Short family were guests of the Charlie Short family on Thanksgiving Day at their home in Collierville, Tennessee. Joining the Shorts for their traditional Thanksgiving dinner were sisters, Pam Short of Memphis and Shelia Eaton of Dayton, Ohio.

Congratulations to Miriam Russell Staten of Black Zion who was featured in the Women of Pontotoc issue b the Pontotoc Progress. She was an All-State basketball player from the 1971 class of Hurricane High School and an All-Star in Jackson. She is now an RN at NMMC Pontotoc Emergency Room. Her mother, Nellie Hale Robbins and her husband, Clay now reside by Miriam and her family in Black Zion. Miriam is the daughter of the late Lynson Russell of Hurricane.

Get well wishes to Randy Benjamin of Pontotoc, Judith Anderson of Sand Springs, to Toy Rutledge, to Tanya Williams Cantrell of Lone Star. Ella Kate Hooker had outpatient laser surgery at Childrens Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas on Tuesday, November 27. She came home on November 27 with her parents, Cade and Megan.

Birthday wishes to Nellie Robbins and Dorothy Robbins.

Sophie Hooker enjoyed riding in the Ecru Christmas Parade on Saturday. December 1 as she has the title of Little Miss North Pontotoc Pre-K and also Little Miss New Albany Christmas. Accompanying her in the 1980 Classic Red Corvette was her mom, Megan Hooker and grandmother, Susan Hooker. Ella Kate and Cade Hooker were in the crowd that lined Ecru Main Street. Mayor Tom and Bonnie Todd served as MCs for the parade. It was good to see Joan Grant of Michigan there as she was attending with her daughter, Lynn Heatherly.

Congratulations to Sophie Grace Hooker who won Little Miss Christmas at the Magnolia Center in New Albany on Saturday night, November 24. She was in the New Albany Christmas parade, Monday night November 26. Helping her prepare the 1980 Candy apple red Corvette to ride in the parade were her great-grandfather, Warren Norwood, and her grandfather, Graden Hooker. Driving her in the parade was her grandmother, Susan Hooker and longtime family friend, Shelia Baker Owen of Byrds Creek. Despite the rainy weather, a good time was had by the group and the crowd along the parade route. Shelia and I were conversing that Warren and Graden were used to hunting with the boys and were not used to putting parade signs on car doors.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Thelma Montgomery Swords (900 who passed away on November 30, 2007 and who was the wife of Dewitt Swords (96) of Shady Grove. They would have been married for 70 years this Christmas Eve. Survivors include her husband and a daughter, Betty Carol Pierece (Jim) of Strongsville, Ohio, and a sister, Geraldine Burchfield of Hurricane. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Jean Swords (November 30, 1953) and her parents, Tom and Valeria Warren Montgomery of Sand Springs and eight siblings, including the following: Brooks, Boyd, Therman, Troy, Ora, and Ila, and infant twins.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Maddie Elise McKay of New Albany who was the baby daughter of April Renee McKay and of Cory Payne. Grandparents are Rick and Renee Bailey McKay and Merl and Carolyn of Shady Grove. Interment was at Ingomar cemetery after services at Ingomar Baptist Church.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Curlin Wayne Hawkins, a former resident of Robbins Loop who was the brother of Rushelle Martin and the uncle of Greg Graham.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Ella Gates who was the sister of James Wallace Little.

A cordial invitation is extended to family and friends of Elizabeth Brooke Moore of South Pontotoc and to Colt Oakley Warren Hooker of Hurricane who will be married on the lawn of Shady Oaks at 4549 Hwy. 346 at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 8. Longtime family friend, Brother Arthur Austin, JR., of Cave-in-Rock, Illinois will perform the marriage ceremony. In the event of bad weather, a tent and heaters will be provided for those attending. A reception will follow the ceremony in the home of Graden and Susan Hooker. No local invitation are being sent.
