Center Hill News
We, here at Center Hill, had a wonderful Easter Sunday. We had Sunrise Services with Bro. Bobby Caples bringing our early message. Afterwards, we all went up to the Fellowship Building for breakfast. The men out did themselves on our breakfast. Everything was ready to eat when we walked in the door and everything was delicious. Thank you, Jimmy Lessel, Steve Tutor, Keith and Cliff. We met back again at 9:30 for our regular services. Bro. Lee had him an “Amen Pew” on the front row Sunday morning ranging from ages 12 down to 4. (They were sooo- cute.)
Saturday was a beautiful day for an Easter Egg Hunt. We had a crowd of children, big and little. I had four of our grandchildren at the Hunt and we all enjoyed looking!!! Afterwards, we went visiting. We went to see Mr. Virgil and Ms. Frances for a little while. Mr. Virgil rode all four kids, at the same time, on his golf cart and they really enjoyed that. When it was time to go, Alex told me he was staying and for me just to tell his Dad to come by and pick him up. He really meant it, too. We left there and went by Papaw Ham’s (Mr. Buddy Hamblin) and visited with him, Aunt Re Re and Aunt Nesie. They went with Papaw to the barn to feed the donkeys. It’s so good for our little ones to get out like that and see donkeys, goats, chickens and what it’s like on a farm. Thank all of you for welcoming us and taking time with the children. We loved our visit.
I’m going back for a few weeks since I’ve missed several weeks writing our column. We were gone on vacation for almost two weeks on a cruise, visiting the Panama Canal, Aruba, Costa Rica and Jamaica. Once we got home, I’ve worked every Monday so couldn’t get my news in time before print time. I’m sorry.
Papaw Grant (Junior Grant) took his last breath on this earth on Friday morning, March 27th. He had a malignant tumor on his brain. Hospice had brought a bed out and he was at home with Mamaw and his children around him. His birthday was Sunday, March 8th. Mamaw cooked a big birthday dinner for him. All the children were here and most of the grandchildren and great-grand’s, not to mention the extended families that went by to see him for just a minute to wish him a Happy Birthday. Visitation was held on Saturday evening, March 28th with funeral services on Sunday, March 29th at 2:00 PM at Center Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Sonny McAlister sang The Great Speckled Bird, which was one of Papaw’s favorite songs. Matt sang Beulah Land and Rita Reeder ended the service with her song which was beautiful, too. I just don’t know the name of the song, for I had never heard it before.
Our community was saddened a few weeks back when Jimmy Steele passed away after a hard struggle with cancer. Jimmy was the father of Jason Steele, who has our Endville General Store here in the community. Jimmy had been a long-time resident. He was married to Barbara Day Willard and they lived on Old Hwy 6 at the time of his death. Our sympathy extends to Barbara, his children, Jima, Karen, Jason and his sister, Gayle and brothers, Brooks and Robert.
Ms. Ethel had her family with her on Easter Sunday to help her celebrate her 86th birthday next Wednesday. Mamaw, we all love you a whole lot and hope you have many more.
Happy belated Birthday wishes to Inita Pannell who celebrated on Friday, March 13th. Danica McCord also celebrated her birthday on March 13th. Lee Bramlitt turned another year older on March 18th. Hope Culpepper had a birthday on March 22nd. Our granddaughter, Lacey Grant turned 5 on March 25th. Last, but certainly not least, Flora Ann Goudy celebrated her birthday on Friday, March 27th.
Lisa Lewis had her birthday on April 3rd and she and Greg celebrated their Anniversary the same day. Happy 64th Anniversary to Mr. Virgil and Ms. Frances Herring on April 7. Luanne Clayton and Debbie McCraw celebrated their birthdays this past Sunday, April 12. Mamaw Grant and Aunt Effie will be celebrating their 86th birthdays today, April 15th. Cliff & I will celebrate another anniversary together on April 18th. The years sure pass by so quicklyeeIt doesn’t seem like we’ve been married 22 years, but we’re sure looking forward to 22 more!!!
