Late rally hurts Lady Rebs

Shalonda Reynolds had two homeruns, including a grand slam, but it would not be enough, as Blue Mountain defeated the Lady Rebels, 12-9 Tuesday.

Reynolds first in-park homer came in the first inning, plating Kayla Kolivas and giving Hickory Flat the 2-1 advantage.

Blue Mountain tied the game in the third and take the lead in the fourth off of three Lady Rebel errors.

Reynolds singled to start the fourth for the Lady Rebs and scored on the next hitter, as a two-run bomb by Marcy Cox evened the game at 4.

The game continued to go back and forth with Blue Mountain regaining the lead in the fifth after scoring two runs, but Reynolds would again respond with grand slam, giving Hickory Flat the 8-6 lead.

Blue Mountain had six hits in the final inning, scoring six runs to regain the lead. They opened with singles by three of their first four batters, and consistently kept the bases loaded, as the Lady Rebs had another error in the inning, along with a walk that scored a run.

Reynolds’ double opened the bottom of the seventh for Hickory Flat, and she would score off a single by Kasey Bennett, but that would be the last run for the Lady Rebs.

Reynolds led Hickory Flat with a 4-for-4 performance, followed by Kolivas going 3-for-4 and Bennett and Raven Thomas each going 2-for-4.

Hickory Flat will host West Union Thursday night. The Lady Eagles are coming off a 10-8 loss at Walnut Tuesday night.
