Missed chances hurt NA

New Albany had a good day at the plate but could not produce runs as they fell at North Pontotoc, 5-1 Tuesday.

The Lady ‘Dawgs had singles by their leadoff hitters in four of seven innings, but left seven stranded throughout the game.

North Pontotoc jumped to a 2-0 lead after a double by Hannah Tate scored one and an error brought in Kelly Shumaker in the second inning.

A two-out single by Amber Mirfield in the top of the third scored Jalanna Cameron to cut into the Lady Vikings’ lead, but that is as close as New Albany would get as North added another two runs in the fourth off of another single by Tate along with a throwing error. North would add one one more run in the sixth off a single by Melanie Works to extend their lead.

Kelsey Hodges led the Lady ‘Dawgs going 3-for-4, while Carrie Spenser was 2-for-3.

Works went 3-for-4 to lead the Lady Vikings, while Tate and Shumaker each went 2-for-3 including an RBI double by Tate in the second.

The two teams will face off again on Thursday at New Albany and the Lady ‘Dawgs will participate in the annual Robertson Sportswear tournament this Saturday at the Sportsplex.
