Lady Eagles roll over EU, Coldwater

West Union had no rust after not playing games the last two weeks. With all of the recent rains, the Lady Eagles are trying to make up several missed games this week, starting with a three-game slate Tuesday night.

Opening with a rematch from the Union County Tournament, West Union had their revenge over East Union, shutting out the Lady Urchins 10-0 in five innings.

West Union opened with three straight hits, a double by Jessica Gates and singles from Kimberly Jumper and Robyn Taylor, taking the early 1-0 lead. Rachel Baker would bring in another run before East Union turned a double play to end the inning.

The Lady Urchins had a runner in scoring position in the second, as Savannah Alexander made it third after her one out double, and she advanced on a single by Brittany Prewett, but Alexander would be left stranded, and that was the last time East Union would come close to scoring in the game.

With the top of the batting order up for the Lady Eagles in the third, Gates had a leadoff single, and with two outs, Baker hit a single, followed by an RBI double by April Rollins, making it 4-0.

Kimberly Jumper increased the lead in the fourth with her three-run homerun, scoring Leah Paige Goolsby and Gates, who reached on a single and double respectively.

West Union would close the game in the fifth, as four straight singles loaded the bases, with Goolsby’s single brining in two runs. A fly out to left center by Julianna Garner brought in the final run, giving the Lady Eagles the 10-0 win.

Gates and Goolsby each went 3-for-3 in the game, with Gates notching two doubles. Jumper, Rollins and Carley Wilkerson each went 2-for-3, as the Lady Eagles outhit East Union, 16-5.

Chelsea Kuhn went 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Urchins offensively.

West Union followed their in-county match-up with a divisional doubleheader versus Coldwater. Led by Jumper’s two homeruns and a triple, the Lady Eagles won both games 18-0 and 15-0, both games in only three innings. The three wins by West Union were by a combined score of 43-0, giving the Lady Eagles a lot of confidence heading into the 1A playoffs, starting next week.

West Union also honored their eight seniors from the class of 2010 Tuesday night, Rachel Baker, Jessica Gates, Kimberly Jumper, Amber Maxey, April Rollins, Robyn Taylor and Claire and Carley Wilkerson.
