Lady ‘Dawgs split at North Pontotoc tournament

The Lady Bulldogs split in their showing at the North Pontotoc Tournament last Saturday.

Entering the day at 3-1, New Albany dropped their first contest against Mantachie. The Lady Mustangs shut out the Lady ‘Dawgs, 5-0, behind nine hits and three runs in the fourth inning.
Mantachie opened their last frame with three straight singles and a New Albany error that brought in two runs.
A sacrifice place gave the Lady Mustangs their final run in the game, as Lauren Cavender dropped to 3-2 on the season.
“Right now, defensively, we’re not bad, we’re just not hitting the ball well,” NAHS head coach Shane Sanderson said. “A lot of that is attributed to the lack of being able to get out to the field and hit this past week because of the heat and other activities.”
Ellen Tarrant had two hits for the Lady Bulldogs, who played and defeated Baldwyn, 2-0.
Tarrant, along with Jalanna Cameron, each had multiple hits for the Lady Bulldogs (4-2). Focusing primarily on the defense and hitting, New Albany will play at Wheeler and host Myrtle this week.
“Defensively, I’m not happy, but I’m not displeased either,” Sanderson said.
“The girls know what we want to do, we just need to make some adjustments to find the best fits.”
