MS Select opens fall baseball season

The Mississippi Select fall baseball league opened with a five game slate on Sunday and plenty of county faces this season.
Hunter McQuary led the Black Prairie Mudcats in their 8-3 win over the North MS Jets. The West Union senior had two hits and three RBI.
McQuary brought in two runs in the Mudcats’ five run third inning, giving Black Prairie the 6-0 lead.
Austin Goode had the win on the mound for the Mudcats, while Ethan Blount earned the save.
The homestanding Tallahatchie Rascals opened with a 12-1 loss to the Mississippi RedWasps.
The Rascals managed five hits against Jacob Shempert on the mound, and scored their lone run in the third inning.
Mason Maxey and Easton Hall had back-to-back singles with one out, and a double by Tyler Dowdy brought in Tallahatchie’s run.
Dowdy had the loss on the mound, while Maxey went in for relief in the third inning.
Andrew Soper and Easton Smith also had hits for the Rascals in the loss.
For the RedWasps, New Albany’s Tyler Beaty was one of two  players with two hits, as Beaty brought in two runs in the third off his second hit.
New Albany teammate Drew Wray also had a hit for the RedWasps.
Other games included the Hill Country Generals falling to the Northwest MS Dealers, 9-1, the Taccopola Swamp Monsters falling to the Tenn-Tom Thunder, 8-7 and the Tippah County Tribe defeating the Desoto Xplorers, 4-0.
Fall league games will be played every Saturday there is no home football game for Mississippi State or Ole Miss and each Sunday at the New Albany Sportsplex.
