County teams compete in EU/Myrtle Challenge

East Union picked up wins in varsity boys and girls cross country over the weekend, taking top honors at the East Union/Myrtle Challenge at the New Albany Sportsplex.

In the 1A-2A varsity girls race, Myrtle placed first and third, with Hallie Knowles winning with a time of 16:24. Samantha Shettles finished third, and Rachel Peeler also placed in the top 10 for the Lady Hawks.
Katie Rowan was the top finisher for East Union, placing second with a time of 16:41. Haleigh Snyder and Hannah Courtney were also top 10 finishers for the Lady Urchins.
West Union girls finished second as a team with Savannah Shirley finishing fifth and the Lady Eagles finishing with five in the top 20.
The boys race in 1A-2A came down once again to Jose Valle and Bryan Cook, with Valle holding the seven second advantage, leading the Urchins to the team title. Cody Dillard, Drew Bruce, Cody Poe and Moisses Solis also finished in the top 10 for East Union.
After Cook, Heriah Dodson and Justin Pickens were finishers in the top 10, as Myrtle finished second as a team, followed by Potts Camp.
Daniel Drummond was the top finisher for New Albany in the 3A-6A varsity race, finishing seventh with a time of 18:02. Dalton Hall finished in the top 20 with the Bulldogs finishing third behind Kossuth and Caledonia in team standings.
Kimberly Hardy finished sixth for the Lady Bulldogs in the girls race, and Haven Boyd finished 26th to lead New Albany with a time of 18:02.
In the junior varsity races, New Albany placed second in the girls race, while East Union and Myrtle finished second and third respectively in the boys race.
Marquez Howell won the boys race for the Hawks, while Autumn Moore of East Union was the top finisher for the county in the girls race.
