West Union falls to Mooreville on homecoming

West Union dropped a tough homecoming match-up against Mooreville, falling 57-49 Saturday night.
Both teams battled throughout the first quarter, trading the lead, before a 9-0 run by the Lady Toppers gave the visitors the lead, 14-11, capped by a three-pointer near the end of the frame.
The Lady Eagles cut the deficit to one early in the second, but Mooreville would go ahead by as many as 14 in the quarter, holding on to a 34-20 lead at the half.
West Union had a late run, with a triple by Gina Beth Conlee making it an eight-point contest with less than a minute remaining. Betsy Kingsley led the Lady Toppers with 18 points, followed by 16 points from Katie Cobb and five fourth quarter points by Lauren Lewis helped seal the win for Mooreville.
Alie Newby led West Union with 17 points, followed by 14 from Leah Paige Goolsby.

The Toppers had two players in double figures, leading to their 19-point win at West Union.
Paris Jeans and Zach Sisk paced Mooreville’s offense with 18 and 16 points respectively, as the Toppers’ defense held the Eagles to only six points in both the second and third quarters after only being ahead by five, 19-15, after the first frame.
Austin Harkness was the leading scorer for West Union with 18 points.
West Union will take on Myrtle and Ingomar this week.
